Surrounded and overshadowed by such natural beauty that man has helped to create, it can be difficult to know where to start exploring our region. From a comfortable car ride to a nice walk, here are some suggestions.
Almond Blossom Route

To celebrate the arrival of spring in the Douro region, we invite you to take a stroll along the Almond Blossom Route. This is definitely a one-day itinerary, but an experience of a lifetime. Between São João da Pesqueira and Foz Côa, you will spend 45 minutes of magic provided by Mother Nature. Don’t miss out on this opportunity, as this landscape can only be seen during the first weeks of March.

Harvest
In the Douro, grape harvests take place everywhere, but it is in S. João da Pesqueira that they take center stage. The municipality of S. João da Pesqueira has the largest area of vineyards in the entire region, is the largest producer of Port Wine and holds the largest area classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In the Douro, the main feature of the viewpoints is the valley of the Douro River and its tributaries, creating a landscape of great beauty. Here we are presented with a magnificent view, as the landscape provides a view from the village of Nagoselo do Douro over the vineyards, the olive groves, the Douro River, the railway bridge (Tua - Ferradosa do Douro) and glimpses of the picturesque villages located high up in the neighbouring mountains.

Saint Martin River Park

Whether in the summer to cool off, or in the autumn to enjoy the incredible reflection of colours that the trees leave on the river, the São Martinho River Park is one of the places you cannot miss.

Mural Route
In the village of Nagoselo you can find several murals painted by artists MRKAS , Mariana PTKS, Tomás Facio, Hazul and Oaktree . These works were created during the 1st edition of the Douro Streetart Festival.

It is possible to travel on foot or by car from Nagoselo do Douro to São João da Pesqueira, enjoying an excellent view over the imposing valley of vineyards along the way.

The N222 has been considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world to drive on. Between Peso da Régua and São João da Pesqueira you will find breathtaking landscape diversity and enjoy all the curves that surround the Douro River and the region's vineyards.

The town of São João da Pesqueira is the oldest town in Portugal, according to a charter granted by Fernando Magno, probably between 1055 and 1065. Its authenticity was recognised and validated by D. Afonso Henriques, D. Afonso II, D. Afonso III and D. Manuel I. São João da Pesqueira is also synonymous with the heart of the Douro and more than just visiting it, you can feel it, letting yourself get lost in the historic and picturesque streets of this wonderful town.
