Surrounded and dazzled with such natural beauty that the hand of man helped to draw, it can be difficult to know where to start to know our region. From a comfortable car ride or a good walk, here are some suggestions.

Almond Blossom Route

To celebrate the arrival of Spring in the Douro region, we invite you to take a walk along the Almond Trees in Bloom route. This proposal is undoubtedly a one-day itinerary, but an experience of a lifetime. Between São João da Pesqueira and Foz Côa there are 45 minutes of magic provided by mother nature. Don't miss this opportunity, after all this landscape can only be seen during the first weeks of March.

Grapes

In the Douro, harvests are carried out everywhere, but it is in S. João da Pesqueira that they stand out. The municipality of S. João da Pesqueira has the largest area of vineyards in the entire region, is the largest producer of Port Wine and is the holder of the largest area classified as World Heritage by Unesco.

Santo António viewpoint

In the Douro, the viewpoints have as their main feature the valley of the Douro River, from its tributaries, creating a landscape of great beauty. Here we are presented with a magnificent view, as the landscape provides a view from the village over the wine-growing hills, olive groves, the Douro river, the railway bridge (Tua - Ferradosa do Douro) and glimpses the picturesque villages located at the top from the neighboring mountains.

Our Lady of Lourdes Viewpoint

In Douro, the viewpoints have as their main landmark the valley of the Douro River, its tributaries, creating a landscape of great beauty. Here we are presented with a grandiose view, as the landscape provides a view of the vineyard hills, the olive groves, the Douro River, the mouth of the Tua River and glimpses of the picturesque villages located high in the neighboring mountains.

São Martinho River Park

Whether in the summer to cool off, or in the fall to enjoy the reflection of incredible colors that the trees leave us in the river, the São Martinho River Park is one of the points you cannot miss!

Sources Roadmap

In the village of Nagoselo you can find several murals painted by artists Mrkas, Oaktree, Hazul, Mariana PTKS and Tomás Facio. These works were born in the 1st Edition of the Douro Streetart Festival.

It is possible to travel on foot or by car from Nagoselo do Douro to São João da Pesqueira, following along the route an excellent view of the imposing valley of vineyards.

The N222 was considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world to drive. Between Peso da Régua and São João da Pesqueira you will find a breathtaking landscape diversity and taste all the curves that go around the Douro River and the region's vineyards.

Anyone visiting the Douro wine region deserves a genuine sensory experience. The history of the wine and olive oil of this region portrays the history of the sweaty life of the Douro people. Visiting the wineries and water mills in this region will provide you with a journey back in time and the experience will be enriched by the smells and flavors that this “gold” carries.

The Wine Museum of S. João da Pesqueira, whose theme focuses on wine and vineyards, emphasizes the products and activities of the Douro region.

Historic center

The village of São João da Pesqueira is the oldest village in Portugal as granted by Fernando Magno, probably between 1055 and 1065. Its authenticity was recognized and validated by D. Afonso Henriques, D. Afonso II, D. Afonso III and D. Manuel I. São João da Pesqueira is also synonymous with the heart of the Douro and more than just visiting it, you can feel it, letting yourself get lost in the historic and picturesque streets of this wonderful village.
